Character – Things hidden and things found (character generation exercise)

Posted in Uncategorized by scarsonmsm on October 9, 2005

What’s this?

My wife turned me on to two really cool sites, one of which publishes peoples’ deepest secrets–written on postcards and mailed in–and the other of which publishes things people have found and mailed in. The second is really fascinating to me–peoples’ to do lists, notes left in old books, photographs. So many of these things evoke character and situation in very powerful and complicated ways. The exercise, then, is to go to one of these two sites, pick out an entry, and develop a fictional character out of it in 300 words or more.
