A close call for MIT OCW
OCW HQ had a close call on Friday, as a transformer exploded in the basement of building where our new offices are located. An NStar employee working on the transformer was killed in the explosion and around 800 people, including all OCW staff in HQ at the time, left in a chaotic evacuation through smoke-filled stairways. It took us some time to be sure we had all our staff out and accounted for, and one member of our team was hospitalized for smoke inhalation (she’s recovered was discharged the same day).
